Let’s thank Shishona Thurston for making the effort to travel all the way to Boise in May to get certified to write grants for Troy’s community work. Troy Horizons paid for her registration and travel expenses to do this. Michele Vachon is working with Rune Frossmo, the owner of the Old High School, to find grant money for the renovation, and now Shishona will be able to help her.

Shishona has also helped organize work parties at the Old High School and a community meeting on June 12th with facilitator Jim Witham to help the entire community (different organizations and segments of the population) think about how they want to use the Old High School. Moreover, working with the Troy Historical Society, she helped put together a T-shirt for this amazing project (coming soon), so that everyone can show their pride and commitment to making this vision a reality!

The Entrepreneurship team will be exploring a variety of possibilities such as supporting existing business owners, encouraging entrepreneurial development, developing a small business investment club, and taking part in a cultural heritage tourism project. One other possibility that has been mentioned is the development of a community garden. We have identified a possible partner for this project, but we’d like to determine if there is enough community interest to move forward so we’d like to hear from you about this issue as well. Then next meeting for this group will be on Wednesday, November 14th from 6:30-7:30 pm at City Hall.

At the Troy Horizons visioning rally, which was held on September 18, 2007, residents of Troy were successful at creating a long term vision of what they would like Troy to be like in the future. More than 80 people showed up to participate in the event which was designed to help citizens create a vision statement for Troy’s future and identify action items that will allow residents to work together toward this vision. The resulting vision statement is available for viewing by clicking Vision Statement link to the right.

Following the rally, interested citizens met again to form Action Teams which will work toward the action items that have been identified. You are invited to become involved by joining one of the Action Teams that has been created. The three Action Teams which were formed will work on developing: 1.) Community Connectedness, 2.) Entrepreneurship, and 3.) solutions for Troy’s water shortage.

Troy Horizons would like to involve as many community members as possible in this process. This is your opportunity to have a say about what you would like to see happen in your community.
