Using Sidewalks to Connect the Community

Monday, January 21st, 2008

A goal the Community Connectedness team is pursuing is to secure funding for creating sidewalks which would help connect community members. Currently the City is working on a project which would connect the school to downtown Troy along Big Meadow Road. In addition to supporting this project, the Community Connectedness team will also work on securing funding to create sidewalks in the area of Troy around Mary Street so that kids can walk to and from school more safely. If you know of any grant resources that might be available or would like to take part in this project please contact Heidi at 835-4088 or post a comment.

Community Center Designs

Monday, January 21st, 2008

Earlier this fall, Horizons partnered with a group of Interior Design students from the University of Idaho to explore various design options for the new community center we want to develop. The students came up with 2 different designs and presented them at a showcase last November. If you’d be interested in viewing the designs, please check them out at by visiting our display at the Troy Library. We’d love to hear your input and get your ideas of how a community center would best serve you. You can provide feedback by clicking on this message, then typing your comment in the box that appears, and clicking submit.

Working to Unite the Community

Monday, January 21st, 2008

An important goal of the Community Connectedness team is to develop a Coordinating Council which would establish better lines of communication between the different groups that are working to make improvements in Troy. This would increase community connectedness and allow groups to work together toward common goals. In order to accomplish this, we need to recruit members from each group who can serve as representatives on the committee. We’d like to invite members of all groups working in Troy to take part. If you are interested in becoming involved, please contact Heidi at 835-4088 or post a comment.

Have you noticed something new in your mail?

Troy Talk has a new image, but that’s not all that’s new. Thanks to a generous donation from Troy Horizons, Troy Talk will now reach every household in Troy. In reaction to local citizens’ concern over the lack of information availability and disconnect between in-town and rural residents, Troy Horizons identified improving community-wide communication as the first action item to address during an Action Forum in April. The first steps in achieving this goal were to distribute the Troy Talk newsletter to all residents and to create a website for Troy. Now that both of these goals have been achieved, citizens will be working on other ways to get people connected, and also identifying new action items. Current and previous issues of the Troy Talk are now available online. Just visit the Troy website at www.troyidaho.net and click the Troy Talk link at the bottom of the page.

Community Connectedness:

Friday, October 26th, 2007

Co-Leader, Julie Redford, rjred@elkrivertv.net

This team will be focusing on improving community communication in general, but will also focus on the creation of a community center. Currently the team is working with some design students from the University of Idaho to develop a proposal that fits the unique needs of the Troy community. The group is interested in learning how members of the community feel about this issue. Do you support the idea? What would you like to see in terms of how the building would be designed and what it would be used for? Please be sure to share your ideas. The next meeting for this group will be on Tuesday, November 13th from 6:30-7:30 at City Hall.

Welcome to Troy’s Community Blog!

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

You may be asking yourself, “What is a blog and why should I care about using it?” That’s an excellent question and I also have a really good answer. A blog is a fun, interactive way for groups of people to share information, ideas, and questions. This can be done using text, photographs, music, sound clips, and video clips.

In this case, the group of people will be all people who live in Troy. The information shared could be announcements about upcoming events, stories about the community, exciting news, or anything else that might be interesting to others. Even better, anyone who visits the blog can make comments and post information.

This blog is an exciting opportunity to address our communitie’s goal for improving community connectedness and have fun at the same time. If you’re not sure what to do with this blog, don’t fret. Community blog training will be offered free of charge in the near future! In the mean time, take a look around and try it out. Don’t worry about making a mistake — you can’t break anything.

If you missed the Troy Horizon’s Visioning Rally, you missed the wonderful pictures that Troy Elementary School students created for the “My Dreams and Wishes for Troy” Coloring Showcase. Luckily, you will still have the opportunity to view the many creative and inspiring ideas young people shared through their artwork. Pictures will go on display beginning October 1, 2007 at the Troy Library. Don’t miss this opportunity to get a glimpse at what some of our youngest citizens’ would like to see in Troy’s future.
